Choose a healthy drink for the 4th of July by making this delicious patriotic sparkling water drink recipe. If you are like, me, you enjoy something nice and cold to drink on a warm summer day.  And while I love a cold glass of iced tea or lemonade, sometimes it is nice to switch things up a bit. Sparkling water gives you that nice fizz you love about soda, but without all the sugar. Perfect for this Patriotic Tonic recipe.

To add a little flavor, add some fruit to your glass. Manuela Davis came up with great idea for enjoying a simple tonic (or sparkling water) with fresh fruit that has been frozen.  On a hot day the frozen fruit serves as ice cubes. You can keep your drink cold but it won’t get watered down. Instead, you just get some great additional flavor infused into your tonic. If you pick red, white and blue fruits, it is a great way to show off some patriotic pride as well. You can easily make just what you need for this Patriotic Tonic recipe.

How to Make Patriotic Sparkling Water

To make this healthy patriotic drink recipe, you’ll need unsweetened sparkling water (can be flavored if preferred) or unsweetened tonic water. You’ll also need some red, white and blue fresh fruits to freeze. Watermelon, apples, strawberries and blueberries work well!

While using sparkling water keeps this a healthy drink for the 4th of July, you can use a lemon lime soda or lemonade for this too. If you intend to serve adults you can use your favorite white wine instead!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Freeze Time 2 hours
Servings 8

Ingredients

  • 64 oz Unsweetened sparkling water or tonic water
  • 1/2 seedless watermelon
  • 2 apples
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Slice strawberries in half. Ball watermelon and apples with melon baller.  Once you ball the apple, squeeze some lemon juice over it before you put it in the fridge to avoid browning.

  2. On a dish freeze all the fruits you intend to use in the pitcher/glass for several hours.
  3. Right before serving add frozen fruits to the pitcher or glass and then add your beverage.

Enjoy this patriotic sparkling water with fruit at your next celebration. It makes a great alternative to traditional sodas or alcoholic drinks and will certainly impress guests!

This sparkling water not only looks festive, but it’s also delicious! When fruit is added to the sparkling water, it starts infusing fairly quickly. I like to load mine up with plenty of berries, especially raspberries!
