Gingerbread Decorating Fun with Wilton {Giveaway}

When I think of Christmas baking I can’t help but think of decorating and gingerbread. Wilton brings the best of both of these worlds with their Christmas Gingerbread Shop. Whatever your level of commitment to a gingerbread house, Wilton can help you make the perfect house. Whether that be completely from scratch with their gingerbread house molds and cutters to pre-baked kits that you assemble to pre-assembled versions that you can start decorating immediately.  And if that weren’t enough, there are plenty of other gingerbread products that go beyond houses.

When I visited Wilton this past October we had the chance to decorate a Pre-assembled Gingerbread House Kit and use fun additional products to take our decorating to a new level. That included sugar pearls, cinnamon drops, icing decorations and more!

It was a lot of fun to decorate and I highly recommend the pre-assembled version if you truly are only interested in decorating the house and want to get down to business right away!

I had seen the Pre-Baked Gingerbread Mini Village Kit while visiting Wilton headquarters and I just knew I had to try it out. I was thinking they would extra cute and a lot of fun for the entire family to decorate their own gingerbread house.

I have to admit I was wishing I hadn’t when I was putting it together. I thought I was a pro after my husband and I assembled my Haunted Halloween Gingerbread House but this was actually harder. With smaller pieces and four different house designs (two were the same cottage) to learn it took me longer.

While I appreciated the end result, I did curse a few times at our adorable village of houses. *gasp* I know. Horrible but true. I would say if you enjoy building this would be fun but since that is definitely not my strong suit, I didn’t so much. Decorating however was a blast!

Both the boys loved having full creative control over their houses. And while I thought the houses were a bit small for me to do my usually more detailed looks, it was perfect for them! My husband even decorated one with us!

In the end it was a super fun project. But I do believe next time I’m going back to the pre-assembled so I can enjoy my absolute favorite part of decorating without anything additional.

If I had been feeling more ambitious I would have created a snow-like scene on the cardboard but with the holidays come all these other tasks like Christmas Tree decorating, shopping and gift wrapping and I just didn’t have it in me.  They are now festively displayed on my living room shelf and think they add great holiday cheer!

Another product we were introduced to at the last Wilton Mom Retreat was the Gingerpops Cookie Kit ($12.99) which was used to create the adorable display below. If you are short on time and looking for a fun project for the kids, this is it!

I’m really looking forward to also trying the Pre-Baked Gingerbread Ornament Kit. I know some grandparents who would love an ornament made by the boys and I want a couple for keepsakes. This kit comes with everything you need to make 9 ornaments and the cookies are already baked for you. I was very surprised on how big they were when I opened them up!


You can find Wilton products online at Wilton or at your local craft store including Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann Fabrics and A.C. Moore. And don’t forget to check out Wal-Mart and Target which also carry Wilton goodies!
