Italian Parmesan Crusted Deep Dish Pizza

General Mills challenged me and several other bloggers to come up with recipes using Pillsbury Pizza Crust and I took on the challenge.

Lately the very favorite meal for my 4 and 6 year old is pizza. They ask for it all the time and while I like that it is a meal that everyone can enjoy, I do get sick of having it the same way over and over again.

This last week I decided to shake things up a bit and create something that still utilizes all of our favorite pizza toppings but that took the flavor in the crust up a notch. By combining olive oil, italian seasoning and parmesan cheese, I created a very simple but flavorful mixture to spread upon our pizza crust. You can always experiment with adding additional flavors such as garlic but I wanted to keep it more mild for my kids.

1 1 /2 teaspoons olive oil
1 teaspoon parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Your favorite pizza toppings

Heat oven to 400°F. Spray or grease 12x9x2-inch or 13x9x2-inch pan. Press dough on bottom and 1 inch or more up sides of pan, folding dough over and pressing dough into edges to create a thicker crust.

  • Add a little minced garlic or garlic powder to the olive oil mixture, around 1/4 teaspoon, depending upon how strong you’d like the flavor.
  • Be sure to bake until the edges are a deep golden brown (but not burnt) to avoid any undercooked crust.
  • For an added twist, consider adding 1/4 cup mini pepperoni to the top of the crust before baking.
