Duncan Hines Decadent Cakes – Apple Caramel

You know it’s Autumn in the Midwest when the temperatures start dropping into the 70’s, evening comes a little earlier and you catch the scent of warm apples baking in my kitchen. It’s absolutely, without a doubt, the most wonderful time of the year.

As much as I like to create my own recipes and bake from scratch, there’s also something to be said for baking from a box. It’s not only easier, but it can taste just as good as had you made everything yourself! I recently had the pleasure of trying out the new Duncan Hines Decadent cakes for myself, which contain zero grams of trans fat and NO hydrogenated oils. Aside from that, they have real ingredients you can see and taste, like the Apple Caramel cake that has plenty of apple chunks swirling around the batter.

Not only did the apple cake batter bake beautifully, it tasted like a slice of Autumn thanks to all of the bits of apples. The Apple Caramel box also came with a packet of dry caramel mix that you add water and a touch of butter to, to create this warm glaze that you can bake right into the cake or lightly drizzle on top.

I already checked out the entire line of Duncan Hines Decadent Cakes at my supermarket and picked up the other two available flavors: Triple Chocolate Cake and Classic Carrot Cake.

All in all, the Apple Caramel Decadent Cake mix turned out to be quite the treat and even gave me the little push I needed to start working on all of my favorite Fall recipes.

Those look delicious! I absolutely LOVE the fall (not like we really have ‘fall’ here, we just have hot and not as hot…) and have been dying to make some yummy recipes to go with the season. Mainly I just want to put pumpkin in everything 😛

I think I am going to suggest these to my friends with not enough time to bake from scratch since they look so yummy!

The chocolate version is to DIE for! I love swirling the yummy goodness into the cakes. I feel professional. The apple one is so good too. I just made that last night.

I still have that box waiting to be baked, I’m just trying desperately not to tempt myself with anything lately …. but I may give in this weekend.

It’s super good! You will love it. I love how you made little cakes out of yours. I may have to do something fancy with that since I have another box sitting on my counter.

One of the reasons I prefer box mixes over baking from scratch, is that you are almost guaranteed a moist cake. Sometimes scratch cakes can be dry, and there’s nothing tasty about a dry cake!

That is so true Tammy, I’ve never had a cake from a box mix that wasn’t moist … it gets tricky with the homemade cakes.
