As most of us already know, Wilton encompasses everything sugary-sweet and cake based, but did you also know they’ve got doughnut pans? Interesting right? I’ve never in my life baked a doughnut but I couldn’t wait to try when I saw these pans at the grocery store a few weeks ago.
On a slightly different note, I’m feeling very weird about spelling it “doughnut”. A quick Google search led me to find that it’s perfectly acceptable to spell it “donut” like I always have, just in case you were wondering.
Going back to the doughnut pans, there are actually two versions. The traditional size seen below and a really cute one with 12 mini doughnut cavities which I did use but overfilled and they turned out more like giant doughnut holes.
There’s an easy to follow recipe included on the doughnut pan packaging which I used to create these very simple cake doughnuts. While the doughnuts are quite tasty, I didn’t care for the nutmeg flavor. In fact, I will probably omit the ground nutmeg altogether the next time I make these.
That said, look how beautiful these turned out! They’re not quite as dense as I’ve traditionally felt in a cake doughnut but definitely not as airy as a regular one.
Coated in a vanilla bean glaze and topped with a chocolate glaze these little doughnuts fill the shoes of a coffee shop doughnut quite well when you need to fill an immediate craving from the comfort of your own kitchen.
Want to make these? You can purchase the Wilton Nonstick 6-Cavity Donut Pan for $9.99 or the Wilton Nonstick 12-Cavity Mini Donut Pan for $9.99, both on Amazon.com sold by Wilton.
And don’t forget the sprinkles … they’re important … and pretty!
