This past weekend I was a guest at my Niece’s 16th birthday party where something amazing happened. I say amazing because while I love my older sister, I’ve never been a huge fan of her cooking. I prefer to stay on the simple, homestyle side of food while she’s a bit more experimental with her choices. That said, I absolutely LOVED everything she made that afternoon, especially the party mix which I’m about to share with you.
Keep in mind, I don’t really care for cinnamon, I definitely don’t like sunflower seeds, never been a fan of toffee and Chex are well, just bland. But when these ingredients are mixed together, they make one tasty treat that has become a little (okay, a lot) addicting. What started out as a little nibble here and a nibble there turned into several refills and a doggy bag of this scrumptious party mix coming home with me.
I did a quick search online to see if this particular Chex Cereal recipe already had a name but I couldn’t find anything with the same ingredients so I just named it Sweet Toffee Chex Party Mix.
Sweet Toffee Chex Party Mix Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups Corn Chex cereal
- 3 cups Cinnamon Chex cereal
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/3 cup Toffee bits (found in baking section by the chocolate chips)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/3 cup Caramel dessert topping
Directions
In a microwave safe 9 x 13 glass baking dish, melt butter and caramel topping for 30 seconds in the microwave.
Add cereal and sunflower seeds to dish and stir well.
Microwave for 4 minutes, stirring once every minute.
Spread Chex mixture on a sheet of wax paper and sprinkle with Toffee bits. Allow it to cool before serving.

could you be anymore negative?
Cat Davis says
I’m sorry Cara (this is you correct? http://theboysmademedoit.blogspot.com/), what exactly are you referring to?
Cara says
It Just seems like you down a lot of people– I’ve even noticed it on your other blog– sorry that’s just my opinion
Cat Davis says
I’m sorry you felt that way. I think you may be misunderstanding the tone of this post, because in fact it was meant as huge compliment to my sister. I said I’m not a huge fan of her cooking, not that it was disgusting. I said I like homestyle food while she likes to experiment with flavors, I guess I just don’t see the negativity. I’m not sure what “you down a lot of people” even means.

Cara, while you are always entitled to your opinion, I really didn’t see this as a negative post at all. Yes, Cat is a picky eater and anyone who follows her blogs probably is well aware of this fact. We tease each other often about it because I am anything BUT a picky eater. Cat is the yin to my yang. But this is blog is more than just recipes and Cat should feel like she can share how she feels about food without getting blasted.
Attempting to leave anonymous comments that are both cryptic and negative themselves is rather ironic.
It is like doing a hit and run. Which isn’t cool at all.

This post is FAR from negative! It’s actually a COMPLIMENT to her sister for all the other lovely foods she makes, including this Chex Mix.
Cara – didn’t your mother ever teach you, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say it at all?”
trisha (cool mom blogger) says
I dont think you are negative cat.

This looks quite tasty! It’s amazing how bland flavors together can make something wonderful. I don’t see any negativity either…I don’t get it?

I’m just like you, Cat. I love simple stuff. I don’t care for the foo-foo fancy dishes with ingredients I have to search all over town for. That chex mix looks like crack!
Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella says
