My husband loves spicy food, especially a spicy pizza so I created this recipe with him in mind. I decided to bake fresh shredded romano and parmesan cheeses along with freeze dried red jalapeno peppers into the crust to give him some added zip beyond traditional pizza toppings. And to really make his day, I added some more traditional jalapenos part of his toppings. He was very pleased with the results.
While I normally don’t enjoy very spicy dishes, I found that the crust itself was more on a medium level and something I could handle eating. If you are looking for a hotter spice, simply change up the heat with the type and quantity of peppers you choose!
Ingredients
1 can Pillsbury® refrigerated classic pizza crust
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
2-3 tablespoons fresh or freeze dried red jalapenos (or your favorite pepper)
1/3 cup fresh shredded Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup fresh shredded Romano cheese
1/2 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Your favorite pizza toppings
Directions
Heat oven to 400°F for dark or nonstick pan (425°F for all other pans). Spray 15×10-inch pan with sides with cooking spray. Unroll dough in pan; starting at center, press dough into 15×10-inch rectangle.
Brush with olive oil. Top with red peppers and shredded parmesan and romano cheese.
Bake about 9 minutes or until light brown.
Spread pizza sauce over crust and top with your favorite pizza toppings, including shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake additional 6-10 minutes or until crust is deep golden brown and cheese is fully melted.
Cut into squares and serve.
TIPS:
For added spice, consider adding other spicy peppers as toppings.
You can add more or less peppers, depending upon how spicy you’d like the flavor.
Other spices like garlic and italian seasonings like basil and oregano can also be added to the crust before baking.
