This morning was rather gloomy. It rained heavily last night and we woke up to overcast skies and fog. Lots of fog. When my youngest went down for a nap my two older boys (5 and 6) decided we should bake something. You don’t have to ask me twice but what should we bake? At first I thought we should make something new with some ripe bananas but after a quick inspection I realized they had already split open they were so black.
Into the garbage they went.
I find experimenting a lot of fun so when I spied a Pillsbury French Loaf in my fridge I thought it would be the prefect dough to work with for something that resembled a pastry. So together the three of us pondered what we’d like to put inside the loaf. My boys settled on raisins and I added a few more ingredients to round our our creation. In under 15 minutes (even with my helpers) we had our french loaf baking in the oven.
This is one of those recipes where it tastes scrumptious, right out of the oven. Serve it warm with a cup of coffee or your favorite tea. It was a hit with my boys and we loved our special snack together.
Ingredients
1 can (11 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crusty French loaf
1/3 cup brown sugar (or white sugar if preferred)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon butter, melted
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper, silicone baking sheet or spray with cooking spray. Carefully unroll dough onto cookie sheet.
Combine sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl. Stir in raisins and pecans.
Brush melted butter over bread dough. Sprinkle sugar mixture over dough. Starting with long side, gently roll dough back up. Fold the ends under and seal.
Bake 24 to 30 minutes or until a deep golden brown. Remove loaf from cookie sheet. Cool 5 to 10 minutes and slice.
I did brush a little extra melted butter over the top and sprinkled some raw cane sugar but this is optional. Another option would be to add a powered sugar glaze but we felt this was sweet enough with the brown sugar inside.
Now where is my cup of coffee? I think I need another slice.

Hi,
I agree about the tea. Good for breakfast, at least I’d have it for breakfast with tea or coffee. Thank you for coming to the Inspire Me Monday Linky party and linking up with us this week.
I’m Janice, one of your hostesses.
