Over the past 10 years of trial and error baking, one thing I’ve learned is just because something comes in a pre-made box doesn’t mean it can’t be incredibly delicious. It’s up to you to build on the expertise of others to create something unique and incredible.
I’ve had the pleasure of trying out the Dassant premium baking mixes that were created by Scotty Mac, who also happens to have a incredible story about the beginnings and evolution of Dassant baking mixes.
My husband, dubbed the king of all chocolate lovers, deserved some royal treatment for his birthday this past week. Rather than get too fancy with this particular cake mix, I wanted our first experience with Dassant baking mixes to be pure so we could really grasp the full flavor potential.
Using the easy to follow directions on the Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake Mix box, I was able to create a simple, but delicious chocolate cake, filled with chocolate chip morsels then topped with chocolate frosting and another layer of chocolate morsels. Throughout the process of creating this cake, the one thing I love about the Dassant preparation process is that they included directions in a written and illustrated outline, easy enough for even a child to help.
The result … two layers of rich chocolate cake filled with morsels of chocolate. It’s a very rich, but delicious cake that in my opinion, was more moist than any boxed cake mix I’ve ever used. The small morsels of chocolate inside the cake layers really added an extra kick of chocolate.
