Italian Parmesan Crusted Deep Dish Pizza

General Mills challenged me and several other bloggers to come up with recipes using Pillsbury Pizza Crust [1] and I took on the challenge.

Lately the very favorite meal for my 4 and 6 year old is pizza. They ask for it all the time and while I like that it is a meal that everyone can enjoy, I do get sick of having it the same way over and over again.

This last week I decided to shake things up a bit and create something that still utilizes all of our favorite pizza toppings but that took the flavor in the crust up a notch. By combining olive oil, italian seasoning and parmesan cheese, I created a very simple but flavorful mixture to spread upon our pizza crust. You can always experiment with adding additional flavors such as garlic but I wanted to keep it more mild for my kids.

Ingredients

1 can Pillsbury® refrigerated classic pizza crust
1 1 /2 teaspoons olive oil
1 teaspoon parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Your favorite pizza toppings

Directions

Heat oven to 400°F. Spray or grease 12x9x2-inch or 13x9x2-inch pan. Press dough on bottom and 1 inch or more up sides of pan, folding dough over and pressing dough into edges to create a thicker crust.

In small bowl, stir together olive oil, parmesan cheese and Italian Seasoning. Brush liberally over pizza crust edges with pastry brush.

Spread pizza sauce over crust and top with your favorite pizza toppings, including shredded mozzarella cheese.

Bake 20-25 minutes or until crust is deep golden brown and cheese is fully melted.

The bottom of this crust turned out perfect!

Soft but not doughy, it was a huge hit in our family! And just look at the beautifully thick crust!

TIPS:

Mini pepperoni add tons of color and extra flavor to any crust.

Experiment with your favorite flavors and have fun with your own pizza crust!
