Fondant … pretty on cakes but sounds intimidating to make yourself right? I suppose you could just go to your local craft store and buy premade fondant but have you seen the pricing on it? tasted it? Blech!
Well let me tell you, fondant, especially marshmallow fondant is not only affordable to make at home but actually quite easy and I’m here to show you how. Even if you don’t care for the taste of fondant, it sure does make cakes look beautiful and you may even fool your dinner/party guests that your cake was done by a professional.
Before I get to the video demonstration here are just a couple of examples of what can be done with marshmallow fondant. My very first experiencing wasn’t entirely perfect, but I did give it a good shot and managed to pull of this very cute (and might I add delicious) three tier ladybug cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday. You can see how each layer of the cake is smooth and clean.
And most recently, I used marshmallow fondant to cover the base cake and doll cake for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. Fondant is not only great for covering cakes but for enhancing the character of a cake design because it’s so easy to mold and use as accents.
So, are you ready to make this yourself? Watch the video below as I go through the process of making homemade fondant, even coloring it with gel color. In the future, be on the look out for more video demonstrations. You’ll find them all in one easy spot, just glance up on the navigation bar above the Oh My!
